MY LITTLE SCHOLARS

a poem to the children of Los Angeles

Mountains so rocky and grey

And oceans so treacherous and blue

I’ve traveled so many miles

Just to get to you

Heavy storms, cold weather, grey skies

on long roads headed to the unknown

Then I spotted a rainbow

And you are my pot of gold

RISEN

no matter how dark the night, the sun will always rise

I always wonder where that girl would be
if she didn't have hope
or the courage to dream
I'm so proud of her
I'm so proud of me
her mind explored thoughts
I didn't know was possible to think
and she saw all of humanity
even though humanity never saw me

INTERNAL DIALOGUE

"to lose patince is to lose the battle" mahatma ghandi

i'm screaming on the inside

will I ever break out of this hell

is time on my side

or is this the time that I fail

knocked down many times

and I still won't bail

I don't always feel fine

but I pray this turns out well

will I rise

it's like watching paint dry

it's happening as slow as a snail

the doubt and hope in my mind

it is at war can't you tell

SHIH

It is as true as can be
Indeed
I was nobody
Until somebody loved me

a poem to my hero, protector, and guardian angel

BESTFRIENDS

a poem to anyone who has ever been my bestfriend for any period of time in my life

You’ll always be my best friend

I’ll never let you go

Not in this life or the next

You live in my soul

My ride or die

My confidant

Always by my side

My right hand

I will meet you in every lifetime

Time and time again

There is nothing in this world like

My best friend

Forever and for eternity

The better half of me

And if we shall say goodnight

for the last time

You're forever in my dreams

SOULMATES

A POEM ABOUT CONNECTING WITH A SOULMATE

Run away with me

lets run into the night

I hear your heart beat

it's calming like lo-fi

And I

get weak when you look into my eyes

I know I

need to live life by your side

You unleash everything I've always tried to hide

and with that I can finally reach all the stars tonight

look at god

 look at life

look at you, my earthly savior

with your shining armor

 you're my knight

running through darkness together

you're my light

ENDLESS DREAM

in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

I have a dream

That black Americans will be seen

in the light of who we truly are

for our perseverance

not just our scars

I have a dream that no one will ever forget

the freedom we won from our ancestors steps

the seeds we planted on the dirt roads we trekked

and the soul that lives on despite the murder of flesh

I have a dream that our children will see beyond

the attempted murder of their minds for centuries long

may god now break the shackles that can't be seen

so black people everywhere can have a dream

ENFJ

A POEM ABOUT BEING A RARE PERSONALITY TYPE

I KNOW I SAY SOME UNCOMFORTABLE THINGS

BUT I NEVER SAID I WAS AN ANGEL OR QUEEN

IF THAT WAS YOUR TAKEAWAY AFTER READING ME

I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHAT EVERYONE THINKS

I HAVE LAYERS AND LAYERS SO DEEP

I KNOW AT TIMES IT'S HARD TO GET A GOOD READ

THE DARKNESS AND LIGHT THAT RUNS THROUGH MY VEINS

I'M EARTHLY AND HEAVENLY, PART DEMON, PART SAINT

WHATEVER SIDE IS OUT ON ANY GIVEN DAY

IT'S ONLY RIGHT THAT IT IS SOCIETY TO BLAME

IN MY HEART OF HEARTS I KNOW GOOD IS THE WAY

AND IM LIGHT AT MY CORE NO MATTER HOW FAR I STRAY

DANCIN'

I love to see you free
moving, wiggling, or dancing to the beat
left foot, right foot, or two left feet
show them how you move when you're up out of your seat

a poem about dancing like no one is watching

MARATHON MEMBER

a poem about resilience

I know there are so many things you weren’t taught

I know times were hard, I know you fought

I know you wake up each day trying to make sense of it all

And I know you get back up with strength each time you fall

I know It feels like you were born into a caste

And no matter what you can’t escape the past

You inherited injustice and you live through hate

Yet you fight to change your destiny, you hold on to faith

You were silenced and you were left in the trenches

But you kept going, your drive relentless

You discovered everything the world hid in hopes to keep you under

Now you’re ready to strike back like lightning, like thunder

You golden child , you child of hope and faith

Against all odds, you continue to run the race

Through steep hills and rocky roads you run along

The wind beneath your feet on your marathon

You keep running , don’t you give up hope

You’re almost to the finish line , you're almost home

keep all the knowledge that your journey lets you know

& push to the finish line, you are so close

BEING HUMAN IS ENOUGH

you are enough
why?
because you exist amongst us

a poem about self worth.

BYE-BYE BABIES

a poem about leaving job with children

You were everything

I dreamed you would be

Genuine, happy

Pure and free

I'm sorry I couldn’t stay

Maybe you won’t even notice i'm gone

But I continue to pray

That I make it back home
